Ratings for big brother increased slightly last night, averaging 2.2m viewers according to overnight data, including those on C4+1. This follows a week of poor ratings right from the launch night itself which was the least watched ever
Big Brother bosses have revealed that housemates getting together and forming a fake romance for money and magazine deals, known as a ‘showmance’, will be punished. Furthermore it will be up to the other housemates to decide whether a relationship in the house is for real or just for money.
Quite how other housemates will decide (or even know) if a relationship is fake, and what punishments are in store for fake couples is still unclear. Tune in tonight from 9PM on C4 to find out all the details!
Big Brother’s Little Brother presenter George Lamb has come out in defence of Big Brother say this series will be the best ever. He however has also said he doubts the show will continue past BB11 next year after Davina leaves, in an interview with WalesOnline.
Series 10 of Big Brother will be sponsored by the GlaxoSmithKline brand of energy drink, Lucozade making it the first grocery sponsor of the reality TV show. This year’s Celebrity Big Brother was sponsored by Dreams and Big Brother 9 by Virgin media.
How much the deal is worth along with other details have not been released, however the idents for Lucozade will be shown across all Big Brother shows. M&C Saatchi have produced the small ident adverts which have a “little brother versus big brother” theme according to Marketing Magazine.
The DailyStar claim to have been leaked details of some of this year’s housemates. According to the article producers have got their final 25 housemates ready for 16 to enter on launch and 4 more during the show.
One of leaked housemates is named as Jade and from the north-east, with an ‘inside source’ saying “It’s very fitting that as we say goodbye to Jade Goody, we could say hello to a new Jade. Who knows? She could become just as famous.”
The Daily Star has confirmed the tenth series of the show is to last 13 weeks starting from Thursday, June 3rd meaning the show’s finale will probably be on Thursday, September 4th or Friday, September 5th.
Big Brother 10 is the latest series to last 13 weeks, the first being Big Brother 7 back in 2006 which enjoyed a 4.7 million ratings average making it the 3rd most watched series. Big Brother 8 however faired much worse, only managing to muster 3.9 million and the latest series was viewed by only 3.6 million viewers on average.
There has also been much speculation over the recently revealed eye logo with the designer, Daniel Eatock saying, “It is based on a thumbprint, but is it Big Brother’s thumbprint? Or a housemate’s thumb print?”
BBLB host George Lamb, who took over hosting the show in series 9 after Dermot O’Leary, has said “it’s time to move on and find the next Big Brother” in an interview with The Sun Newspaper.
In an interview focused on his Radio DJing experience, the BBLB added, “I think they’d knock it on the head after this one, the 10th anniversary, if they could.” Channel 4′s contract with Endemol for Big Brother expires after series 11 of the show.
Lamb’s comments come just days after Eviction and now BBBM presenter, Davina McCall, claimed BB is to be axed after the 11th series.
Both the Sun and the DailyStar have speculated the launch date for Big Brother 10 will be June 4th. Whilst both papers aren’t accurate in a lot of aspects they are the official papers for Big Brother. A Thursday June 4th launch is also the most likely with it evading the ratings giants Apprentice, Britain’s Got Talent and the Champions League final.
In other news according to the DailyStar Davina is in hot water over her claims Big Brother would be axed made earlier this week. A C4 spoken is said to have commented “We have two years left on our current contract and it is far too early to speculate on new negotiations.”
